We love making pasta!
We spend time together, work as a team, make memories and a few hours later, eat really good food, that is good for you too.
Our recipe is simple, semolina flour and eggs. That’s it!
Semolina flour is made of durum wheat, it is a coarse type of flour, yellowish in color. As opposed to traditional white flour, Semolina is high in essential vitamins, minerals and nutrients, including B vitamins and selenium, which is an important antioxidant. The flour also has a low glycemic index, which means we digest it slowly and feel full longer.
Semolina is also high in protein. We are always on the lookout for alternative protein sources for our three picking eaters! One cup of Semolina flour has 21 grams of protein, the equivalent of 3 oz. of cooked chicken breast. Mom Win!

Our second ingredient, eggs, are natures multi-vitamin. They are a clean, good quality, source of protein, for kids and adults alike. Eggs are loaded with essential B vitamins, zinc, iron and so much more!
Eggs have been found, in research studies, to build brain health, strong muscles, aid in keeping our immune systems healthy, provide a good source of energy production and even helps our skin.
So here’s how to make the pasta…
4 C Semolina Flour
- Crack eggs
- On another bowl measure 4 cups Semolina Flour and make a whole in the middle
- Pour eggs into the flour bowl and start mixing with a fork until all of the flour is well mixed
- Take out the sticky dough, unto a floured work surface, kneed for 10-15 minutes (with kids this process can take longer. Have fun with it, take turns with the kids. Click here to read about the benefits of kneading).
- When the dough is no longer sticky and is stretchy, roll it out and cut into several pieces to run through a pasta machine.
No pasta machine? Just roll out the dough on your floured work surface, until it is almost paper thin. Use a pizza cutter wheel or regular table knife to cut strips or desired shape. Gently lift the pasta up.
6. Cut pasta to your liking
Working with kids? Take out rulers and measure the pasta strips. Ask them to cut them evenly. To measure their length and width. Let them have fun, allow each child to create their own unique pasta.
7. Hang to dry on hangers, one hour or more
8. When fully dried, boil in salted water 5 minutes
Serve with your favorite toppings. We served it with our Kale Pesto and sautéed veggies.
But if your kids only want some cheese over the top, that’s O.K. too! (Well, at least some tomatoes and cucumbers on the side!)

Can substitute half white flour and half semolina if you prefer the taste. I do not recommend whole wheat flour because of the taste and texture of the pasta.
